Marble Floor Cleaning Tips
Marble Floor Cleaning Tips
The holidays are over and a brand new year is upon us. One of the things I like to do in the beginning of the year is get my home clean and back in order after all the craziness of the last few months. There is one thing that some people forget when it’s time to clean up after a busy time and that is cleaning their floors! Sure it’s easy to remember to vacuum, but we also must remember to give our other floors a good scrub down. With that in mind I will share some marble floor cleaning tips.
Here are some great marble floor cleaning tips:
*Sweeping needs to be done DAILY! Marble is a beautiful floor choice but also a delicate stone. It can get scratched and scuffed easily. Sweeping daily will help get rid of the dirt and debris that can scratch up the floor.
* It is very important that the cleaning solution used on marble be pH neutral. Do not use acidic cleaners on your marble or it will scratch and lose shine. (This means NO vinegar solutions should be used on marble)
*Homemade Cleaners work great on marble floors! All you need is 1/2 a cup of MILD dish soap in a gallon of warm water. Use this solution to mop the floors.
*Don’t let air dry! Marble is a very porous stone and can absorb water quickly. This can create stains and dull the shine of marble. So after mopping gently wipe dry with a fluffy towel.
*Make sure to put a barrier between marble floors and any items on the floor! Using a felt mat on the floor where anything will sit ( trash can, coat rack, etc) will help ensure the marble does not get scratched by these items.
*Make sure your marble is sealed! Most marble is sealed by the manufacturer, but if not you will want to get it sealed. It will help make your marble last longer and look nicer. Here is a great article explaining how to tell if you marble is sealed or not.
*If you are a smoker, marble is not the best option. The leftover chemicals exhaled when smoking sticks to the marble badly. It will cause yellowing and dullness.
